 Accessibility Statement

Jackson County Board on Aging/Jackson County Senior Centers

This statement was last updated on September 30, 2025. We at the Jackson County Board on Aging are working to make our site, jacksoncountyboardonaging.org, accessible to people with disabilities.

Purpose

Jackson County Senior Centers are committed to ensuring that all people — regardless of ability — have full access to our programs, facilities, services, and information. We aim to create an inclusive environment that supports dignity, independence, and participation.

Standards & Guidelines

  • Where applicable, we strive to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its implementing regulations.

  • For digital content (website, online forms, etc.), we aim to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, to the extent practicable.

  • We continuously review and update our policies, practices, and facilities to remove barriers and improve accessibility.

Physical Facility Accessibility

  • Entrances, halls, meeting rooms, restrooms, and other common areas are designed (or adapted) to enable access for persons using wheelchairs or mobility devices.

  • Wherever possible, ramps, handrails, elevators, and automatic door openers are provided.

  • Accessible seating, clear pathways, and appropriate lighting are part of our planning.

  • Service counters, program stations, and seating areas are arranged with consideration for accessibility.

  • If any part of our facility is not accessible, alternative arrangements (such as relocation or assistance) will be offered in a dignified manner.

Program & Service Accessibility

  • Programs, classes, and events are offered in accessible locations whenever possible.

  • We will make reasonable modifications or provide auxiliary aids (e.g. large-print handouts, assistive listening devices, captioning) upon request to ensure full participation.

  • For off-site activities, we will consider accessibility of venues and transportation.

Digital & Communication Accessibility

  • Our website and digital materials aim to provide accessible formats (large text, high contrast, keyboard navigation, alt text for images).

  • Documents and handouts will be made available in alternate formats (e.g. large print, Braille, electronic format) on request.

  • We endeavor to ensure compatibility with assistive technologies (screen readers, magnifiers, etc.).

  • We monitor and test our digital presence, and use recognized accessibility evaluation tools for compliance.

Feedback & Reporting Barriers

We welcome feedback about accessibility barriers. If you encounter any difficulties accessing our programs, facilities, or digital resources, please let us know:

When contacting us, please indicate:

  1. The location, webpage, or program you are referring to;

  2. The nature of the accessibility barrier;

  3. Your contact information, so we may follow up if needed.

We will make a good-faith effort to respond within a reasonable time (typically 5 business days) and to provide a solution or workaround.

Ongoing Efforts & Updates

  • We periodically review our facilities, programs, policies, and digital content to identify and remediate accessibility gaps.

  • When we introduce new technologies, upgrades, or programs, we will evaluate accessibility impact in planning and implementation.

  • This statement may be revised as needed; the effective date will be noted below.
